In which way is voting detrimental to the section?

Downvoting (which probably is what you're hinting at) is likely a double edged sword whose absence would be just as bad, in a different way, as its presence. I'm sure everyone will agree that we don't want the section to drown in a sea of trivialities, even though we do want a place for news of narrower magnitude than use.perl.org posts them.

My vote is to leave it alone for the time being. I believe we still need to find out just what it is we want out of the section. That won't happen without letting the section run for a while and observing whether develops in a satisfactory fashion. If we determine it has not after a while of observing it, we can then address the specific issues that have become apparent in the meantime, and discuss how to fix them.

See Perl articles section for the issues.

If people use good titles, I don't see anything wrong with 10+ posts/day to the section. Voting in the section seems to imply that it is reserved for larger events.
