You just keep telling yourself that. I'm extremely fortunate in that my workplace's hiring procedure includes a case study -- and it works, too -- but all but a handful of employers look at your credentials, and maybe your resumé and references, and don't do any practical check on whether you can actually do the job they're hiring you for. If you're lucky, and your employer isn't afraid of wrongful-dismissal suits, your less useful cow-orkers might get fired for their incompetence, if their supervisor notices that they're not pulling their weight.
