Don't miss Perl on the Emacs Wiki.

(I use Emacs + PerlySense on Windows, Linux, Solaris with essentially the same user experience so the whole thing is quite cross platform. Don't see how it would be fundamentally worse on OSX.)

    IMHO the Apple UI standards, especially the apple key changes a lot!

    Though there is a special apple-flavor emacs called Aquamacs handling this, though I can't guaranty that ECB screenshots I showed fully work with Aquamacs.

    I think when the OP has problems with UNIX, he should better stick with highly intuitive Textmate, OTOH if he changes to any other UNIX system his Textmate knowhow will be for vain...

    Personally I would prefer Ubuntu to OSX to familiarize with UNIX...
