    Files/folder is a conceptual model/metaphor is based on real http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_folders.

    So yes, files do reside in folders, regardless of the actual implementation details which Marshall describes

      This metaphor, however, is not sufficient in explaining why deleting a file is called "unlinking" and how it works.

        Pretending that it isn't , that its wrong, is as ikegami already said

        There was no request or reason to explain how unlinking works. Unlinking may not always remove a file's contents from the disk, but it sure does delete files from directories.
