<H2><a name="find"></a>Finding Your Home Node</H2>
<p>There is a link to your home node in the directory at the
top of every page. Click on that link to go to your home node.</p>
<p>If you have trouble finding that link or remembering that it's
there, you can always type your user name into the Search box at
the top of the page. Assuming your name is unique enough not to
conflict with other nodes on the site, the Search should take you
right to your home node.</p>
<!--
<p>The (site-relative) URL for any user's home node is like<br/>
<tt>?type=user;node=<i>username</i></tt><br>
NOTE: The <code>'&type=user'</code> part of the URL is
optional. It can be used to distinguish user nodes from any non-user
nodes with have the same name. -->
<!--
</p>
<p>Within the PerlMonks site,
a link to any user's home node would be written as
<tt>[<i>username</i>]</tt>.
This can be used when creating node content or sending public
(chatterbox) or private messages, for example.
</p>
-->
<p>When you view your home node, there will be a link at the
bottom labeled "<u>Edit</u> your user information". Clicking this link
will take you to a page where you can customize
the appearance of your home node and make other changes to your
personal information (such as email address).</p>
<H2><a name="custom"></a>Customizing Your Home Node</H2>
<p>Make changes to your home node by entering information
into the fields on the user info edit page. Make sure you press
the "stumbit"1 button to save your changes.</p>
<p>1 <small>No, "stumbit" is not a spelling
error.</small></p>
<H3><a name="image"></a>Your coveted user image</H3>
<p>When you reach <!-- the [id://5938|level] of -->
[id://198665], you gain the right to post a
picture on your home node. To upload a picture, type/paste a file
pathname into the text field, or use the "Browse" button to locate
the file. If you have already uploaded a picture and want to
remove it, check the box labeled "Remove Image".</p>
<H3><a name="name"></a>Real Name</H3>
<p>Enter your real name here. Only [gods] (the site administrators)
can see this information. Your real name is not displayed anywhere on
PerlMonks.</p>
<H3><a name="password"></a>Change Password</H3>
<p>Pick a good password that you can remember. Enter the same
password into both boxes. After pressing "stumbit", you will
have to log in again.</p>
<p>If you forget your password, you can have it sent to you
by email by clicking on a link in the login box. Make sure
you keep your email address up to date.</p>
<H3><a name="email"></a>Email Address</H3>
<p>Enter your email address here. Like your real name, your
email address is not used or displayed anywhere on the site.
It is only used to send you your password when you request it.</p>
<H3><a name="cpanid"></a>CPAN ID</h3>
<p>
You can put your [https://pause.perl.org/|PAUSE] author ID in this field.
When someone views your profile, they will see it and
it will be a link to the corresponding page on [https://metacpan.org/|metacpan].
</p><p>
Note: If you have a PAUSE account but have never published anything to CPAN,
this will be a broken link.
</p>
<H3><a name="location"></a>Location</h3>
<p>If you like, you may enter your location here. Whatever
you enter here is displayed at the top of your home node with
some other information about you. If you don't enter
anything, your home node will show <i>n/a</i> for
location.
</p><p>
Note: This field accepts HTML, but is <i>not</i> processed
for PerlMonks markup; so, for example, [id://43037|shortcuts]
are <i>not</i> converted into links.
</p>
<!-- <p>
You may want to [id://37653]. (See [id://36963] for technical details.)
And [id://40041] work similarly.
</p> -->
<p>
See also <a href="#bio">User's Bio</a> (below) for other options related to <a href="#location">Location</a>.
</p>
<H3><a name="bio"></a>User's Bio</H3>
<p>Your bio can contain anything you want it to: Information
about you, information about your grandmother, your favorite
links, helpful tips for making tomato soup. You enter this
information as HTML text. See [id://17558] and [id://29281]
for more information about what you can enter here.</p>
<p>
Other sites which use HTML <i>comments</i> (<c><!-- location:latitude:DD.MM.SS,longitude:-DD.MM.SS --></c>, for example) entered into your <a href="#bio">Bio</a> to display information about Monks include:
<ul>
<li>[http://pmplanet.perlgeek.de/|PMplanet], currently maintained by [bart]</li>
<li>[http://mcdarren.perlmonk.org/googlemonks/|Google Earth Monks], currently maintained by [McDarren]</li>
</ul>
</p><p>
These sites replace [jcwren]'s <b>Monk Maps</b> and <b>Big Monk Map</b>, as described in [id://37653], [id://36963], and [id://40041], but use HTML comments in exactly the same way to get your location. See [http://pmplanet.perlgeek.de/|PMplanet] for formatting details.
</p><p>For more information about [http://pmplanet.perlgeek.de/|PMplanet], please refer to [id://820919]. [http://mcdarren.perlmonk.org/googlemonks/|Google Earth Monks] is discussed in detail at [id://558846].
</p>
<h3><a name="scratchpad"></a>Edit Scratchpad</h3>
<p>'Edit Scratchpad' is a link which takes you to your scratchpad node
with edit mode turned on. (This is controlled by the presence of
<code>displaytype=edit</code> in the URL.)</p>
<p>See [id://418988] for info on actually editing your scratchpad.</p>
<H3><a name="significant"></a>This is a significant update</H3>
<p>
If this checkbox is checked when you click 'stumbit', the
<c>lastupdate</c> field of your home node will be set to the
current time. This field is used by [id://16902] to calculate
which home nodes fall within the interval of interest.
