I was kind of suprised there were no Japan inspired cartoons that were such a staple of my childhood. There were several I was sad were not listed. How can you leave out:
    • Voltron
    • BattleTech
    • Johnny Quest
    • Thundercats
    • He-Man/She-Ra
    • Transformers
    • The original Space Ghost
    • G.I. Joe
But I suppose the list drags on and on and on... most of these are no longer being made. What a shame, there are so many cartoons that wouldn't fit. *sigh*

    Lord Wrath
    -the unsane red mage
Thundercats RULE! Did you know that according to the original anime pilot the Thundercats of Thundera were nudists and that it was only upon having to leave their homeworld that they decided to wear clothes? *SNARF*

"Ancient Spirits of Evil, transform this decayed form to Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living!!!

Don't forget Force Five and StarBlazers!

If you ever find information on these types of cartoons, tell me, so i can watch them,, if you know a network that still airs them can you email me. Kenneth_p67@yahoo.com

You bet your life Speed Racer's gonna see it through
    Go Speed Racer
    Go Speed Racer
    Go Speed Racer go

He's off and flying as he guns the car around the track
He's jamming down the pedal like he's never coming back
    Adventure's waiting just aheeeeeeeeaaaaad

    Why no
    • Southpark
    • Amazing Spiderman
    • X-Men
    • Batman (the rather darker one)
    • Tasmanian Devil
    • The Tick

(Update: Removed Road Runner due to my dumbness. Guess I lose myself when I talk about cartoons (something related to my childhood)).

The list has to be of finite length.

I forgot South Park, along with Rocky & Bullwinkle. Oh well.

And, if you look *very* closely, you'll see 'R.R. & Coyote'. Guess which one that is?

Sorry, I thought it was Roger Rabbit (really). I haven't seen it yet myself so Coyote looked like one of its characters.

It's a sad day when Tom & Jerry is skipped from polls like this.

    Why is T&J so great?
Because unlike cartoons such as Sylvester and Tweety (I hate that damned yellow bird), sometimes the cats actually wins.

    JP who-watches-Cartoon-Network-at-1pm-CST-each-day,
-- Alexander Widdlemouse undid his bellybutton and his bum dropped off --

I'd say the reason for T&J is Chuck Jones.
Chuck Jones! Chuck Jones! Chuck Jones!

      --
      perl -pe "s/\b;([st])/'\1/mg"

Besides, Tom and Jerry can easily become allies to beat a common enemy. I think this makes the plot really unpredictable (well, at least when you consider that that bird's adventures are all the same).

I worked in Puerto Rico for a while, and would make it a point to watch TV to improve my language skills. My favorite cartoon there was "The Jetsons". It was of course dubbed in Spanish, and renamed "Los Super Sonicos"! George Jetson became "Super Sonico", Jane was "Ultra Sonico", the kids were "Lucero" and "Cometin" Sonico. Astro's name was left unchanged.

    Family Guy.

The Critic? I guess I wasn't in a charitable mood. Arnie is his own satire.

Adult Swim cartoons on cartoon network. Actually the simpsons is my favorite. I honestly do not think there is an episode I have not seen more than twice, and they still crack me up!

    4. Record of Lodoss War

I could do another "What? No ______?" but that's just not right.

I'm rather sad that my favorite cartoon of all time fits both of these criteria:
    • Wasn't in the original poll
    • Hasn't been mentioned yet
Does nobody remember The Critic, which was once on ABC, then Fox, then Comedy Central? (I don't have cable anymore, so I don't know if it's still on there). The Critic made some very politically incorrect and hilarious commentary on the state of motion pictures at the time. I'll never forget seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger singing the Dreidel song.

The Tick was a great cartoon too, very off-the-wall. I love original animations.

    What? No Sailor Moon?

    ~Brian
Yay. Gotta love the version of "new york new york" and "it stinks" from the critic... :-) (I am not alone...)

They have a new web series done in Flash. Personaly i like the tv version better, but you can find it here.
Yeah, I've seen the flash one - I wasn't terribly impressed. I mean, it was funny because there were some jokes made about the new format, but the TV show was worlds better.

I don't have a single favorite anything, so from the list, I like:
Dexter's Lab (Dee Dee, you are a cookie.)
Johnny Bravo (Do the monkey with me).
    Futurama & Simpsons (always)
R.R. & Coyote (classic, but they don't make new ones)

I also like (shows that are still running)
Family Guy (I really liked the Death episode.
BTW - The Grim Reaper was played by Adam Corolla
Sponge Bob Square Pants (my favorite fry cook)
    SouthPark (kickass),
    Batman Returns (action is good),
    Grim'n'Evil (It's opposites day!),
Courage The Cowardly Dog (Oh Courage, you're the greatest)
    Samurai Jack (KICKASS!!!!!!!!!)
    ...

    And (shows which are "retired")
Animaniacs -- Pinky and the Brain (zort),
                  the Good Feathers, Mindy
... most of the entire lineup
    Freakazoid (great theme song),
Earth Worm Jim (moo ~ i even like the game),
    Ren'n'Stimpy,
    Conan,
    IronMan,
    Batman,
    Superman,
    Beavis'n'Butthead ...
    Pink Panther (classic)

    I don't like Anime

There is probably plenty I forgot about ;)(i will update)

update: the above was just from memory (20min worth).

In need of a cartoon expert ~ I can't remembe the name of this one cartoon ~ central char. blonde kid (plays bluesharp), w/magical red hat that opens portals, talking bird sidekick (intelligent)

    Inspector Gadget!!!

I used to watch that when I was small, when we just got cable tv. Probably over 15 years ago. It was on Sky Channel, early in the morning, and since I didn't know English back then, I didn't really understand much of it, but I liked it anyway :-)

Nowadays, I think Futurama is the absolute best cartoon out there. The Simpsons have grown stale, and have started repeating themselves. Alas, nowadays I require cable internet to watch Futurama, but so be it.

Lur: "But if this cape shrinks, consider your species extinct!"

Unfortunately, the Simpsons started getting stale when Homer went from being a mean (albeit hilarious) character to a predictably dumb one. I always wondered why Groening let the show take more of a mainstream feel, rather than letting its "raw" quality envelop the show.

If you get the chance, just listen to the difference in Homer and Marge's voice-overs from the first season to the more recent (last 5 years) episodes. You'll never believe they came from the same voice actors.

If you like more mature animated series and you aren't watching Samurai Jack, you need to find it and watch it and beg it's forgiveness. What other animated series around would have the balls to let the art do the talking and have no dialog for 5 to 10 minute stretches?

That said; Cowboy Bebop, Simpsons, Justice League and Futurama all rock.

OK, I'm firing synapses that have major dust collecting on them.

To answer the question: STAR TREK: The Animated Series (What kind of Geeks are you? Not a single mention?), Battle of the Planets (Alternate titles: G-Force & Force Five), & Start Blazers (Alternate title Spaceship Yamato... anyone besides me realize that was supposed to have been the WW2 battleship which the USA captured & used in atomic testing research in Bikini Atol?)

I have also thought up this short list of groovytoons that were way cool & have not been mentioned thus far:

    • Thundarr the Barbarian
    • Golgo 13
    • The Fantastic Four
    • The Herculoids

I am thankful also that everyone had the decency not to mention the dreaded Pokémon....(shudder)

    :sniff: I miss Daria.

Maybe that should be the next poll... "What cartoon show that is no longer running would you bring back?"

(I also miss Pinky and the Brain and the Warner sister Dot)

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

No Bugs Bunny to be found!?!

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Spongebob Squarepants. Bugs Bunny (Looney Tunes). Tom and Jerry. Ren and Stimpy. Simpsons (inc. Itchy and Scratchy). Family Guy. Star Blazers. Transformers. He-man and the Masters of the Universe. Pheonix (remember that one?). Flintstones. Jetsons. Scoobie Doo (not Scrappy!). Inspector Gadget. Spider man (yes, the cartoon). Super Heroes and the Hall of Justice (Wonder Twins, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, etc.). ... and sadly I admit, Beavis and Butthead (diarrhea cha cha cha!, diarrhea cha cha cha!).

Where is Battle of the Planets/G-Force? Many a half-hour after school was wasted watching BotP and recently I watched G-Force every chance I had on Cartoon Network, although its been a while since I've seen it there.

Mayby It´s just big joke, but I voted Power Puff Girls. I think it good cartoon to watch sometime when there is nothing else to do. Or.. mayby I just should be reading that Perl-book that I bought some time ago.. :D

It is a big joke, exactly. It makes fun of all those superheroes series, by having a bunch of preschoolers as the protagonists.

Also, have you noticed that most characters are made up of round shapes, while the professor is made of rectangular ones? I don't know why, but they probably did it on purpose.

I can't believe Ranma 1/2, Macross (any version), Robotech, Gundam (Mobile Suit Gundam; Gundam Wing), Ren & Stimpy, Voltron (the lions especially), Battle of the Planets (or its parent program), Rocky and Bullwinkle, Mr. Magoo, Transformers, The Beatles, The Jackson 5, The Monkees, Speed Racer, School House Rock, Dungeons and Dragons, and Dirty Pair were all below the cut.

Including animated features, which some would call cartoons, in addition to animated series, I have to also mention Titan AE, Tank Police, Perfect Blue, Vampire Hunter D, Ghost in the Shell, 8 Man, Heavy Metal (the original), The Black Cauldron, Princess Mononoke, Milan, and Prince of Egypt among the list of all-time greats.
