Whatever you eventually decide, don't mess with the system Perl. Give yourself a clean install of whichever Perl you chose... and in its own dir. I'm guessing that you're referring to the perl in c:/cygwin64/bin as the "system perl" (the cygwin system). (Please let me know if that's incorrect.)
