A few nights ago, I went looking to find other options in the way of editors to try out. I found links to Code Editors and Development Environments and Perl Development Tools, and began opening links to see what each was about. I found several links, however, that appear to have suffered bit-rot, and thought I should bring it to someone's attention. Where I could, I have tried also to find or suggest updated or possibly better links.
- Alpha - link in "Code Editors..." currently redirects to the LinkedIn page for a Mac developer (Daniel Steffen). It appears Alpha itself ceased development, and a group of developers picked up the code as the AlphaX project (which can be found at http://alphatcl.sf.net/). (Daniel Steffen, mentioned earlier, appears to be one of the contributors to the AlphaX project.)
- CoolEdit - link in "Code Editors..." currently returns a SourceForge (SF) error page. FreeCode has a project page for it (http://freecode.com/projects/cooledit), which links to a directory on iBiblio.org containing a release (ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/apps/editors/X/cooledit).
- Glimmer - link in "Code Editors..." currently returns a SF placeholder page. Would a better link be the SF project summary page (http://sf.net/projects/glimmer/)?
- Perl Scripting Tool - link in "Code Editors..." returns a 404 error page. Possible working link: http://perlscriptingtool.tnlsoft.com/.
- XCode - link in "Code Editors..." currently returns a 404 error page. Possible working link: https://developer.apple.com/technologies/tools/.
- CodeWright - link in "Code Editors..." current returns a 404 error page, and it appears Borland has ceased development. Would a better link for this currently be the Wikipedia page for CodeWright?
- Nvi - link in "Code Editors..." currently returns a 404 error page. Possible working link: https://sites.google.com/a/bostic.com/keithbostic/vi/.
- GNU Emacs on Windows - link in "Code Editors..." currently returns a 404 error page. Possible working link: http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/windows.
- Proton (English and German links) - links in "Code Editors..." currently return a 404 error page. Possible working link: http://www.chip.de/downloads/Proton_13007891.html.
- Notepad+ - link in "Code Editors..." currently returns a 404 error page. Possible working link: http://download.cnet.com/Notepad-Plus/3000-2351_4-75946621.html.
- Perl Code Editor - links in both pages currently return a 404 error page. Unable to find working link yet.
- PerlWiz - links in both pages currently return a page in Russian that did not appear computer related (I could be wrong, however). Possible working link: http://perlwiz.com/.
- PrimalSCRIPT - link in "Code Editors..." currently returns a 404 error page. Possible working link: http://www.sapien.com/software/primalscript.
- Lemmy - link in "Code Editors..." currently returns a 404 error page. Possible working link: http://www.unixtools.co.uk/lemmy45.html.
- Anjuta - link in "Perl Development..." currently returns a SF placeholder page. Would a better link be the SF project summary page (http://sf.net/projects/anjuta/)?
Hope this information proves helpful. Your thoughts?
