Why do you assume we're not already very wealthy?
use Moops; class Cow :rw { has name => (default => 'Ermintrude') }; say Cow->new->name

I would buy the Monastery, and personally run it from my secret bunker. :-)

Assuming wealth freed me up to do more of what I want to do (BIG assumption), I would probably come here more often. I already write Perl for my job, but I do a lot of other things for my job too, and I spend less time coding than I'd like.
Sadly, my reading suggests that if I were really to become very wealthy, I would end up spending more time worrying about what my money was doing, and actually have less time to do things I enjoy.

So, I am really wealthy all of a sudden...
Wealth attracts undesirable attention(or so I assume). Attention is not what I desire. Nor would I want to give up my newly attained wealth to avoid attention. What better place than here at the monastery to spend ones time? No one here would know that I am wealthy, yet I would have time to do what I really like: learn Perl.
I suppose that I would spend equal amounts of time here in
virtual space and on my farm in meat space. Those are the two places where wealth (or lack thereof) really don't matter, and where no one would be the wiser.
Nice to think about... . One thing though, there is an old anecdote about a farmer who wins the lottery.
He was asked; "what are you going to do now?".
He responded; "Keep on farming til its gone I guess.... ".
I reckon so ...
...the majority is always wrong, and always the last to know about it...
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I use perl primarily at work. Though I do some projects at home in it as well. I imagine if I hit the current powerball lottery ($215,000,000 right now) I'd be too busy jet-setting around the globe to spend much time here.
But, let's face it. That's not gonna happen!

While most of you are very fine and intelligent people, and I enjoy the banter, there are far too many wonderful expanses of saltwater in this world that must be explored with a suitably appointed vehicle.
Most of my catch-up sessions would happen when in port.
I won't say that I wouldn't invest in a satellite uplink to use whilst at sea though. :D

I'd came just for fun (as a hobby), not for work (to request for help to understand some strange behavior of a script/package).

I won't say that I wouldn't write some middleware to get data from various devices (gps, vehicle monitoring, etc) to keep a record of things though. :D | [reply] |
