Would there be any interest in HTML::Emojis

skx has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

As part of a markdown sharing service, which is written in Perl using CGI::Application, I needed to support :emojis:

Looking on CPAN I couldn't find anything suitable, so I hacked together a simple module which I've called HTML::Emoji, which attempts to parse HTML, using HTML::TokeParser to do the heavy work.

It isn't unusual for me to write little toy modules like this, but mostly the are designed to solve a specific problem that I have and don't seem generally useful.

For this I'm unsure though, does it seem like a useful module or not?

As you can see most of the work here is knowing what is a valid token and what is not. Obviously if I did release it I'd need to bundle up the images too, along with test-cases, etc.

You should ditch Exporter/Autoloader :) Also, How does Encode::JP::Emoji/http://code.google.com/p/emoji4unicode/ fit into your project?	[reply]

On the first point, agreed. The link you refer to is a different thing; I'm using emojis in the other sense (similar to emoticons such as ";)" or ":-)" instead you use words such as ":angry:", ":kiss:", and ":wink:".) Steve --	[reply]

You should upload it. The ratio of Perl users in the world to regularly participating monks is extremely high. Some feel the CPAN is overcrowded and authors don’t practice enough restraint in uploading every little thing. I’m not one of those. UPLOAD ALL THE THINGS! Just please keep it on github or bitbucket or someplace and include the repository info in your release so if there is interest, you can get quick/easy patches and feedback. Update: You know, the OP has 21+ right now. That’s a fair indicator of interest.	[reply]
