in thread poll ideas quest

It's not a poor excuse, I believe this treats polls in the spirit in which they're intended. An option for people to specify a film from any year solves your imagined issue, no code changes required.

"For example "what was the best movie in 2006?" is a good question even if a new movie comes out in 2007"

That's actually a different poll question, not the one I posted here. You've limited this to one year. If you think adding a time factor "simplifies" this by any means you and I have differing opinions about keeping things simple.

"Although NotA sort of handles the problem, it only does so only technically but does not actually address the issue."

actually, this is the non technical solution, no new code added, just post the name of the film. Also:

"Without specifying a year or range of years, a poll like this would always be out of date, unless, somehow, automatically updated."

You propose wiring code to automatically update 8 year old polls is somehow a simplification? How can adding and testing code to provide an unrequired feature possibly by keeping things simple. Again I think you're trying to solve a problem that simply doesn't exist IMHO.

An option for people to specify a film from any year solves your imagined issue, no code changes required.

Then why list any movies at all? The only option should be Other (please specify). Obviously, the options are meant to be a plausible list for people to choose from, with Other or NotA a rare option.

You've limited this to one year.

You realize that was an example don't you?

You propose wiring code to automatically update

I proposed limiting the question to a time period because otherwise it would never be up to date, unless it was self-updating. Sheesh!

I must apologize. Had i known you would take offense to my comments, i would never have posted a reply to begin with. I meant them with the mild humor associated with polls in general.

For reference, it took no offense. I don't think your posts to this point clearly stated your point.

I guess i made the mistake of thinking it obvious because it was in a poll quest thread.
