Espresso makes the world go 'round.

Boring bio stuff

I've been writing software for about twenty years, in just about every programming language since 6502 assembly was considered "hip," but mainly in C, C++, C#, Java (when I can't avoid it), Perl, Ruby, and Haskell. Of them all, I only like programming in the last three.

Stuff I write

I post it to my blog: http://blog.moertel.com/.

Fair warning

I am an advocate of functional programming and will, at some time or another, talk to you about "monads."

(Laugh! That's supposed to be funny.)

Perl background

I started writing Perl code circa 1996 but until 2003 had drifted away, mainly because my clients prefer other languages and because my free-time hackery went to Haskell. But, thanks to my pal CaseyWest and the Pittsburgh Perl Mongers, I'm happy to say that I have once again caught Perl Fever. Here's to hoping there's no cure! (Lifts glass.)

Stuff that I've written on PerlMonks that is probably more interesting than its rating implies

Here are some nodes that are interesting yet attached to threads that for unrelated reasons have low ratings and are ignored. (Most recent first.)

Talks for Pittsburgh Perl Mongers

Here are the instances when innocent, unsuspecting people were made to suffer one of my talks:
