Perl 6 to be renamed?

In a blog post by Dave Cross on the Perl conference in Riga there is this...
The second day started with Liz Mattijsen’s keynote DeMythifying Perl 6. I was surprised when she stated that “Perl 6 has damaged Perl 5” was not a myth, but a fact and was totally blown away when she followed that up with a proposal to rename Perl 6.
There seems no reference to this anywhere else.

See maybe the PerlCon 2019 Live Stream. liz held the keynote for the second day.

I think there is a ticket somewhere in some bug tracker on renaming Perl 6, but I can't find it at the moment.

Here's my fav reason to rename it, stolen from TheDamian:
It has a more subtle association with the Perl community’s signature camelids: “raku-da” is Japanese for “camel”.

        -QM

Quantum Mechanics: The dreams stuff is made of

Again, because I can't comment in the discussion itself...

Also, Camelia, with the “C” and the “ML” in the name could confuse someone into thinking that’s its a language of the ML family like Ocaml.

        Um... Isn't it? ;-)

Frankly, a language that only about fifty (and here I'm most likely being too nice) people care about may be called anything at all. It doesn't matter at all.

        not a manual!

Happily this all seems to be moving along apace. And that's all I can find words to say at this moment.

liz right now in the Raku PR:

    > The name "Perl" is **very** important for the Perl 5 community. The moment the "sister language" meme was accepted, "Perl 6" effectively became a squatter on the name "Perl". This name change is very much about mending the "Perl Community" ...

The way forward always starts with a minimal test.

Thank you to dave_the_m, TonyC, RJBS, SawyerX, p5p and people like Dave Cross, NeilB and a thousand others whose quiet, determined, forward-moving work has kept making Perl more brilliant while this dark cloud of confusion hung over us all, and has positioned it so well to soar now that the cuckoos have left. What an exciting time to be a Perl developer!

now that the cuckoos have left.

just cant help yerself with the unnecessary insults, can ya?

There's not enough rain in a monsoon to spoil this parade :-)

While it's nice for P5P to get some recognition, this is not the way to go about it.
