On Tuesday. Nothing good ever happens on a Monday, and Friday is too late. Wednesday and Thursday are consumed in planning for the System maintenance outage on Saturday and Sunday is devoted to recovering from the Saturday Night Follies. I would prefer the year to start according to Chinese calendar. It depends both on sun and moon cycles, and as a programmer I think I would have much much more fun dealing with dates.	[reply]

At 11/11. Not only is that my birthday, quite binary and easy to remember, but it is also the beginning of the Carnival season - which is all about our existence on the physical plane. First hardware, then software (fasting e.g. FORTH, then "Help save the world!" - easter or perlmodlib, you get the meaning); after that we might be able to transcend all of this as Perl 6 or like zentara did do. perl -le'print map{pack c,($-++?1:13)+ord}split//,ESEL'	[reply]

Midwinter would be a good day to start a new year for it would /just/ about may brighten the mood in regions that are not tropical. Else, make it either Friday or Monday to extend the consecutive free-to-me paid vacation to 3 days, as far as living in a state of USA where New Year's Day is a paid holiday is concerned. Failing that, make it either Thursday or Tuesday so that I could choose to extend the vacation to 4 days by taking leave of a day.	[reply]

Just to add complexity to an already complex system: I would prefer that the year start on an individuals birthday. Just think of the mess that could make! On the other hand, it might offer up some interesting challenges for those who have had the gracious (though to me, un-explainable,) temerity to attack date and time through efforts like Date::Calc and relatives. I suppose that one would have to offer up the option to personalize such modules upon installation. Additionally, it might force us to rethink how we engage in dialogue regarding time, perhaps giving us an opportunity to switch to a less complicated and more global standardized calendar....(preferably without daylight savings time. Have never figured out how that saves either daylight or time..) If nothing else, it would render useless the question "when were you born", as the answer would always be the same: 0001-01-01T00:00:00Z(in one parlance anyway,) Nothing like starting out the new year with a suggestion to make the world a more complex place... :-) ...the majority is always wrong, and always the last to know about it... A solution is nothing more than a clearly stated problem... wjw	[reply]
