Long long ago, Larry famously wrote a short and handy rename Perl script (which seems to have been lost). However, improved versions of this script can still be found. See for example:

    I'm pretty sure I've been schlepping this one along in my homedir as ~/bin/rename for well over two decades now that's genesis is about six years after the original.
