Perl startup and Windows defender?

LanX has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi,

Does anyone here have experience with excluding Perl from virus scanning at start up?

I'm experiencing 1-2 seconds lag when starting a Perl process, and I don't think it's normal.

(Tho haven't benchmarked it yet)

It's a work laptop, so I want to play safe and be sure not to compromise any company assets by excluding Perl.

I haven't yet looked into it but my understanding is that I have to whitelist perl.exe somewhere.

Hence it's not possible to distinguish between different .pl files, as such I can treat my own scripts as trusted?

Cheers Rolf

"What's the best strategy in a $work environment including legal implications."

Ummm... ask your direct supervisor, the IT department, the legal department or whoever you need to ask to get sign off before you breach a company policy? We don't even know where you work, so I doubt anyone here can answer these questions for you.

Speak to your legal department, IT Security department, or kick it up to your manager to take care of.
