Whatever is going on, or has been, I object to this vilification. I have never detected a hint of malevolence or any of the three would-be pillars described on that wiki page.

I concur. What is happening now is essentially cyber-bullying, and it should stop.

If one feels such a way about another poster, then apply the troll rule. (Namely: Ignore, don't feed.)

I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16,000 zombies.

Indeed! And thank you. Heaping abuse in response to perceived abuse just makes the whole world (full of) arseholes.

If one can keep the appropriate level of calm, then I approve of pointing out the technical flaws in a non-abusive manner. Though I think even that has mostly been done of late in more of a knee-jerk (and less useful and less convincing) fashion than in a continued attitude of helpfulness.

If the poster annoys you, then stop abusing yourself and stop reading what they write. Especially stop spending time soaking in the annoyance while you compose a reply. This is particularly true if the annoyance reaches a level that leads to impaired judgement or just saps eloquence. If you need to assist your personal will power, then add custom CSS to just hide such (or force a smaller font or something).

If you are indeed primarily concerned about the uninitiated being lead astray, then a reasoned and calm reply specific to the concrete errors in a specific post is the best solution. Ranting, exasperated, or abusive replies are more likely to be discounted as being the ones authored by the jerks.

Sincere thanks to those who consider keeping the tone respectful. ( No, I don't expect you to feel actual respect. ;)

For all to wit - not a reply to tye's node, but an addendum to his post -this CSS snippet hides post bodies of that insane monk e.g. shmem you want to ignore (510280 is the node_id of my homenode):

        <style> /* shmem */ `[class$="510280"], `[class$="510280"] *, `[class$="510280"] :link, ` +[class$="510280"] :visited { display: none !important; } a`[href$="=510280"]:before { content: "the annoying jerk "; } </style>

To ignore me, copy and paste that into your Free Nodelet Settings. To ignore someone else, get their homenode id and s///g as appropriate.

update: Added "`" before any [ and inserted <style> tags

        perl -le'print map{pack c,($-++?1:13)+ord}split//,ESEL'

I concur. What is happening now is essentially cyber-bullying, and it should stop.

*ahem* if you go to sundialsvc4's writeups you can see he has posted ~ 30 new nodes since participating here , and didn't receive harassing responses; in other words he isn't being cyberbullied

The belive in the own grandiosity as well the permanent attention seeking is narcissistic. And causing confusion, trouble, irritation and annoyance year in, year out is anti-social.

Hmm, spamming for profit, not malevolent?

That’s clearly never been what’s going on. The exact opposite is what’s been achieved all considered.

Sometimes I wonder if some a’y’all nameless monks have ever met real persons in real life with real intrapersonal dynamics, idiosyncrasies, quirks, messy motivations, and histories. It’s one thing to be irritated or have technical reasons to complain/refute. It’s another to drop identity, culpability, empathy, and any sense of grace just to snipe.

Without drawing conclusions, I'd point you first to this extract from his homepage:

(If you’re staring at thousands of lines of unfamiliar and unreliable Perl ... that was written by a long-gone individual, Mike can help you.)

        And then this node.

And point out that in most courts of law, "I didn't know" nor "I didn't mean it"; is not a defense; and given his history, he must be aware that his understanding of modern computing in general, and Perl in particular, is (or would be, were it a laughing matter) a joke.
