Hummm. I suspect that if you have a question about the appropriateness, it maybe isn't appropriate.

On the other hand, it seems that these days almost anything will be objectionable to someone. (I suspect that if I were to post a image of a blank piece of paper, I'd get flack about it.)

I suppose that the only way to test the appropriateness is to post the image and see who salutes. Or throws tomatoes.

I'm looking for guidance/documentation from the decision makers, from gods or SiteDocClan

A reason for discouraging inappropriate user images is avoiding legal jeopardy. At least in the U.S., being explicit about what is allowed or not allowed can be a way to increase legal jeopardy. If I were a policy maker, I would duck this question.

As most of us don’t live in religious oligarchies but secular states which protect all but threatening or libelous/slanderous (when non-satirical) speech, it’s acceptable. Good taste is another matter all together.

      GOOD TASTE IS ANOTHER MATTER.

What’s the matter, don’t you get it? :P

        ... :P

I've seen you put forth the argument that we should strive to remain professional ... SFW if you will ...

I figured might as well link the image that inspired the quest for guidance
