I think that "Patriarch" is way more, um, patriarchal that Pope. It's the essence of patriarchy, surely? The word "Pope" may have roots in "father" but it now means "head of church". This does bring up the singularity question.
Why not make Vroom the Pope, and the current Popes/Patriarchs can have a different title? Maybe just "Eminence"?
One Pope to rule them all ...
Or ... since as someone pointed out Sainthood is achieved post-mortem, make vroom the only Saint, leave the Popes as is, and rename the Saint level ... maybe to "Assistant at the Pontifical Throne" (definition)?
The way forward always starts with a minimal test.

Reasonable suggestions -- but I think not substantially different from the status quo.
The title I gave to vroom - "His Eminence" - is of course an address of the Pope. It feels to me more personal, vs simply a title of rank.
If we wanted to, we could create new levels with XP thresholds set such that each of the current three patriarchs get their own title.
I don't think this is a good idea, because the XP intervals would actually be relatively small; and then of course we'd have the problem
where the XP gaps between Corion, ikegami, and BrowserUK shrink even further.
A better solution, imho, might be to create special titles which attach explicitly to the user, not connected with XP.
If implemented, this would probably only be used for users at these rarified strata. I would even kill the new rank of "His Eminence" I create for vroom,
and just attach that as a title to vroom under this proposed mechanism.
I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon staffed with 16,000 zombies.
