in thread Is "Tidings: What's New at PerlMonks" Obsolete?

My problem is that I've always liked you; at least, until recently. Since you ascended to godhood (the ineffably resplendent form called erzuuli) you have treated me nastily (for instance, that noisome instance of messing with my XP — it's unknown what joy or satisfaction you got from that).

"Now please do me a favor and stop saying Tidings is disused/obsolete."

That is a complete confection by yourself; I beieive you to be intelligent enough to know this. I did ask the question "is [it] obsolete?"; I never made the statement "[it] is obsolete.". The word "disused" appears nowhere in this thread until you wrote it.

"I don't even know what "Supplications in the Monastery Gates" is supposed to mean"

Please review your own post "Re: Monastery gates typo and title change"; in particular,
'I also renamed the SoPW section as "Supplications" ...'

In that thread there are other changes that I would have considered "tidings"-worthy. If this is not the case, please explain why (not just to me, but in the introduction to the page).

I sincerely apologize for the things I've said/done which have made you feel like I've treated you nastily. That has never been my intention; very far from it. That incident of messing with your XP - that was supposed to be just "fun" and I wanted to bring some (positive) attention to your contributions. Apparently I miscalculated and I'm sorry.

It's true you never stated that Tidings is obsolete. But you've asked the question, rhetorically, more than once, and a reader might easily conclude that you believe Tidings is obsolete. Forgive me if I'm being overly sensitive, but I've put a lot of work into this site and I'm proud of it. I took your questioning of Tidings' status as an implication that I'm slacking.

The word "disused" appears nowhere in this thread until you wrote it.

"disuse" is the word you used here. You referred to that thread yourself.

Tidings was never meant to be a change log. Changing some wording here and there is not significant enough. Adding another IP to the block list is not significant enough. Adding a link to a help doc from a settings page is not significant enough. Changing the shade of green in the background of a button is not significant enough. Those are the sorts of changes that get discussed in PMD. And often that's all the documentation that's needed.

I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon staffed with 16,000 zombies.

Ken please, this site operates as good as it is possible with it's limited manpower and legacy code.

There are only 2 active gods left and there is only so much what pmdevs can do.

I think both of you would profit to tone this down and show more tolerance.

This here depends on motivation and will be damaged by frustrating conflicts.

    @all: Ask yourselves:

    • is the monastery as functional as once envisaged? (no)
    • is it still worth kept running? (yes)

Tidings is about announcing new features, I think we are busy enough fixing the old parts and keeping trolls and spammers at bay.

I personally don't care much about tidings ...

    Cheers Rolf
