I don't know were this option is supposed to be, but I think I just recently saw a patch from erzuuli/jdporter claiming to disable it.

Did you check if it's still there?

On another note: you or anyone else is welcome to take my wikisyntax solution and patch the JS to understand Markdown.

    The option is now not available in "User Settings".

      I removed it based on your tip. Thanks.

        You are very welcome! But I would much rather just be able to use Markdown. Is there a way I can contribute such?
