Recently Active Threads: limited maximum node depth

G'day All,

This morning, I saw in "Best Nodes" a link to "Re^12: Perl XS binding to a struct with an array of chars*". I looked in RAT to get an idea of the activity in this thread: there were a number at "Re^9" but nothing deeper. I went to the Page Settings (bottom of the RAT page) to change the maximum depth but the selection only provides 0-10.

Scrolling through (the very long) "Perl XS binding to a struct with an array of chars*", I found a couple at "Re^10" as well as the "Re^12" (from Best Nodes). So, I haven't lost access to any content; however, it would've been preferable to get a high-level view via RAT.

Can that "maximum depth" selection be extended? I don't know if there are other factors involved, so I don't know what to suggest beyond arbitrary ranges such as 0-20 or 0-99. Alternatively, could there be a "no depth limit" checkbox? I imagine a text entry box would be another option, but I suspect that might require a fair bit of validation and other work which pmdev's may not want to undertake (although, I'm very much guessing about that).

Hi Ken I can't comment on the rational behind this limit, but > Scrolling through (the very long) As a tip: you don't need that, those nodes are still in RAT - well depending on the ancestor settings° - you just have to expand the folded parents. I can only see one² `Re^9` with an `+/-` to the right, after 3 unfold-clicks I saw the `Re^12` in question. G'day Rolf, My settings (top of RAT page): `Current View Mode is Full Thread, switch to Root and Node, Minimal Nod +es or Node Ancestors` [download] There's been some activity between posting this morning ... long work day ... logging back in this evening. Now: 5 "Re^9" entries; 2 have "+/-"; 1st "+/-" gave "Re^10"; 2nd "+/-" gave all "Re^10" to "Re^13" with one click. That's still fiddly when a quick top-level view is wanted; however, and with reference to your "second reply", setting "maximum depth" to zero gave a full hierarchy of all nodes in all threads: I'll stick with that as it seems to do what I want. I just noticed that after the ano-monk view after logging out° shows the whole tree. The limit is here set to 0. ² I can only replicated this when logged-in again, after deactivating JS. Which might be related to my own heavy node-let hack settings. But you should try that too. YMMV tho ...
