To add an international case, some German villages like Buesingen are exclaves surrounded by Swiss territory. They have two sets of ZIP codes and the official local currency are Swiss francs not euros. You'll find plenty of more examples for such bi-national spots on Wikipedia, like Austrian mountain valleys which are only accessible by street from Germany, and so on... In the end you will always need look-up tables to cover exceptions in the system.
