If the legal department's work is done,

And if you're a one-man band?

No difference, except that the legal department's door has "lawyer" written on it. Never work without a contract, never sell without a contract.

      Great.

And a year later, when renewal time comes around and the company says they don't need to renew because they've developed their own in-house replacement, your piece of paper is worth about as much as the T&Cs on the world+dog's website.

Can you prove that they stole your code? Can you afford the legal process required to do so?
