Perl web developer on-and-off since 1996. Learned most of it from Randall Schwartz's columns... Wrote several frameworks, CMSes, ecommerce systems in perl, php, python - hopes never to have to write one again if people would please figure out how to resolve the square hole/round peg issues around web engine design. Nowadays mostly architect, refactoring consultant, team builder, CTO/division head - coaching and building teams that build web products, or coming in after something has been built to make it either faster, or modify it to be more maintainable and production friendly. I don't code much these days and trying to get back to it for some small personal project is proving more confusing, but all in all I like perl. To me it is the pragmatic language by excellent - concise and fast. Like everything I use, I both love perl and I hate it. Being on the CPAN prompt line is like revisiting an old friend, and suddenly reminiscing "oh, look, Digest::MD5, hadnt seen that one in an age". I still don't know where to start though. One of my designers from a past job told me the story of showing a system I had written (a big ecommerce engine) to a new developer and the developer went "wow, this is really fast" and the web designer went "that's because it's built in perl". Priceless :D
