Imagine a self proclaimed driving instructor from England - obsessive and deaf - constantly preaching to continental students to drive on the left side. *

These corrections bind more energy than feeding all the other trolls together, because you can't leave them uncommented.

Just have a look at Worst Nodes of The Year ²

And the proportion of his negative posts is astronomic. ³

> however I do not think it is correct to just let bad blood flow in this forum.

A lot has been said and proposed already, even automatically marking or reaping exceptionally negative posts.

But if you think "some of the points ... are in fact valid" you are welcome to put your energy into discussing them.

*) well imagine a Brexiter "politician" giving all his jingoistic speeches in public in Europe ...

²) now try to imagine worst nodes of the last years.

³) almost one quarter of his posts are negative, far more have been down-voted at least once.

It's obvious that almost everybody is relieved when he doesn't show up and practically nobody would miss him.

This is sundial in a nutshell. If you're unfamiliar with his antics, you might think we're too hard on him. But we've beaten our heads against the wall of his obstinacy for so long that there's nothing left for us to do but laugh.
Well I should have added "without valid driving licence" , since AFAIK he has never shown us any working code.

good analogy. a self proclamied driving instructor who sometimes gives advice like 'dont hit other cars' so people try to defend him that hes not all bad, but then he explains that the break pedal is always on the far left, and how when he managed several driving schools in the past he told his instructors not to use the turn signals because the flashing lights confused him...

look at us, wasting time on discussing how hes a troll, i bet hes having a good chuckle

... and this thread, by contrast, has relevant, working code at almost every node (not!)

    Enough awready!

sundialsvc4 may not be your favorite monk, but despite some of the well-justified recent critiques, he did sometimes post useful (i.e., relevant) and correct code or info in the past. And if he's verbose to a fault and recently is guilty of expressing himself in an egotistical or arrogant manner, he's also become the target of much trollery, ad hominem attacks and other comments that reflect badly on PM.

So, even if you're convinced that he's a troll, ignore; as the wisdom of the Monastery has it,

    "Don't feed the trolls.'
      > he did sometimes post useful (i.e., relevant) and correct code

      Let's talk about facts:

This search returns his posts with <code> tags* so far

       ?node_id=3989;BIT=%3Ccode%3E;a=sundialsvc4;yr=2017;mo=09;dy=29 (click search )

      Please note that

      • the first 50 go back to July 2014, he wrote 1000 posts since then
      • that many of them contain no Perl, but pseudo code or no code
      • if it's supposed to be Perl it's often untested guess work
      • that most technical contributions provoked negative replies correcting him

I even quickly stumbled over one post which was left uncorrected, where he confused qw with qr -> Re: Adding missing values into a hash

See also what others had to say: Re^2: Two sort in single Array set

      > "Don't feed the trolls.'

I'm not feeding him, as a matter of fact I'm even technically filtering him from my RAT view.

In other words I can't even downvote him, because he's mostly invisible.
