    I knew all of that already, and that was not what my question asked or what i needed. It did not mention cp437 at all, which is what my left-hand string needed to be encoded as, as vr pointed out in his correct answer here: https://www.perlmonks.org/?node_id=1220300
      ?? It didnt seem that way :/
        Well just consider: If you don't know that you can use cp437 to encode the string on the left hand side in OP into something useful, exactly how does the link you gave me help figure that out at all? What exact part of it leads to the path to cp437?
