However, maybe this will help some of us be better, stronger, faster programmers.

It's not how good you feel, it's how good you look.

Good idea -- when your family starts irritating you, close your eyes and imagine flexing, flexing your muscles...as you imagine hacking them to bits with a large axe.

      No stress here.

I'd like to see a new poll after the holiday season for 'Actual weight gain this holiday season.' Might be a bit different results. :)

For us geeks that will probably overshoot their projections, I recommend the 'Hacker Diet'. It worked wonders for me personally although others have had lesser results.

What if we don't track, and don't worry about it?

I let my wife take care of the worrying... :-)

I'll be putting on weight for much of the winter as well. The holidays are just the start. It's not uncommon in Canada, especially in the colder regions.
Yeah, it gets awfully cold in my igloo in the winter ;-)

As for weight gain, I have a plan to counteract that =D

I doubt that my mom's cooking will be good enough during holidays to make me fat, so I'll stay stable.

hmm, it's very likely i'll be putting on more weight, but just as unlikely that it'll be from eating and/or getting fat - i've been doing alot of strength training lately, so i've (happily) went from 130lbs to around 138 over the last few weeks, and there's no signs of slowing down, either. ((:

something to note, too: increasing your exercise and activity level -before- you start chowing down on the holiday hams can help prevent the unwanted pounds at best, or at least keep the 'damage' to a minimum. not to mention, it'll probably make you feel better in the long run anyways. (8

I don't know about gaining or loosing weight... but I think I have had enough varieties of turky dishes now to last me till next year. Problem is - there is still half the danged bird in the fridge! Agg!

With 2 Christmas dinners in 2 days I will have a hard time not gaining a little weight. But it's all right because the food is good and I have a very manly physique to work with!

Most people gain weight during the holiday season. Usually, I do too. But, this year, I found out my girl friend has been cheating on me. For some reason I lose weight after break-ups... So I am that small percent who will probably lose over 15 lbs this holiday season...

    where are my cigarettes?

OK, I have to consider all of the factors... All of the E-Commerce sites are frozen until the last week of December, so I'm on VACATION Bay-bee...Thus Snowboarding.

So we consider potential weight loss due to aerobic activity offset by muscle gain (muscle is heavier than fat) also offset by fat replaced with large quantities of beer turning to empty calories as I pass out at 8PM after boarding all day...

Offset by booting after waking up at 2AM with a throbbing hangover, modified by the 8 eggs for breakfast before hitting the slopes again.

On the off days we have food consumed whilst hacking on the laptop in longjohns...

Then calories burnt off by stress when the family calls & wants to know why you're not there for dinner.

Figure in said dinner skipped & replaced with Oreos & Hot Toddy...

    Confused yet? Me too...

    Projected Weight: 4 metric tons.

Oh, wait, that's the ammount of food I'll be eating. I won't gain much at all. :D

I expect to gain less than a stone.
A stone like the Ayres Rock in Australia?

Ahhh... time to gain all the weight back that I lost when I left home (and mom's cooking). She always sends leftovers too!

It's not my fault I'm going to gain weight

    • Cold/Wet outside
    • Fridge full of good food inside

Shouldn't be hard to guess where I'll be.

I have no choice but to keep my weight stable. I am a diabetic and that can take some of the fun out of the holidays but not all of it.

One of the ways I am making up for not being able to participate in the holiday gluttony is by brewing a batch of stout to give away as presents!

I'm going to gain 500 metric tonnes before Christmas eve. When I visit my family Christmas day I can sit on their house and flatten it. That way, they may not insist on me eating yet more turkey to 'fatten me up'. I know it's a long shot, but the message may just get through to them.

LOL... my Mother does not usually put enough food on the table for all of us. Normally it is all gone before we get to seconds. Heck a lot of times I do not even end up filling myself...

(Of course minding myself about last Thanksgiving, I do not believe Mom had anything left over for Turkey Sandwiches)

I cheated over the Thanksgiving holiday and had carbs. I am on the Atkins diet. I've already dropped 3 inches off my waist/20 pounds in 1.5 months.
    I feel freakin excellent!

Thanksgiving was the big cheating day. Christmas will be easy.

    Viva la Meat! :)
