ActiveState Perl build 630

John M. Dlugosz has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I just installed build 630, upgrading from 628.

Any idea what changed? I can't find anything in their new doc set.

Speaking of the doc set, it's a new style, and it's not picking up other installed modules! Is this no longer going to be an integrated documentation tree, is something not working, or what? If it won't do that anymore, I'd call that a step backward!

The html documentation can be downloaded from ActiveState website or by `ppm install ActivePerl-HTML` [download] Update: The release notes are available here and the change log is here.	[reply] [d/l]

I am kinda disappointed with the new documentation too. I prefer the HTML one that shipped before 6.30. You can get old docs anyway installing an ActivePerl::HTML. I'm also experiencing what you say: this new HTML Help documentation doesn't upgrade with new installed modules: that's kinda strange and a good step back definitely (or maybe just an installation bug?). Update: data64 beat me on time, so i update the package to install.	[reply]

I was about to suggest Update HTML Doc to pick up the docs from all installed modules. But on second thought, my guess is that it no longer works with the new doc setup. We may have to prevail on fellow monk Rudif to investigate the possibility of a revised version to pick up all existing modules into the new docs or the retro-fitted old-style docs.	[reply]

The new docs has advantages: full-text search of the entire documentation set, and collapsable TOC tree. However, it's a "compiled" help file, so I don't see how a simple tool can simply rebuild the TOC page. I like the old way, if only because it's "open". We could change the generated TOC (to add scripted expandable tree things), and add a search capability, or whatever.	[reply]
