This goes back to what I was saying earlier about giving back to the community by becoming involved in the community. The great thing about that is that you'll get far more back from doing that than you'll put into it (actually, that's true of all the ways of contributing I mentioned).

A prime example of that are the Perl Monks. Their charter is to be:

And they accomplish all three goals. Brilliantly. They have some extremely talented Real World programmers who are happy to lend advice on specific problems, discuss alternative strategies and solutions, critique existing code, etc.
