getting a life (a cautionary tale)

in reply to Top goal for the coming new year

Over the last several years I've been letting work, lazy after-work burnout (i.e. procrastination), and other factors steer me to postpone assorted important stuff. Among other things, this included keeping in touch with old friends. So, a few weeks ago I finally work up the motivation and nerve to scour the web for someone who was once a close, extremely vital friend, but who I haven't been in touch with in years. And so I find her obituary, dated March.

The morals, to me, are:

  1. Don't let that happen ever again.
  2. Get a life, in the sense expressed by the quote on adamsj's home node.

Wow. Thanks for the wakeup call. I will start this week to track down my old best friend. I haven't seen him in 15 years.
