They finally did it... the CPAN has yielded to the pressure and gone to Java. I'm so happy I could weep.

I read somewhere recently that the open source community was becoming increasingly fed up with Perl, with it's compact syntax that allows for so many mental effencies that it's difficult for someone with no human language ability to understand.

Like Python, they say, Java encourages, allows, even demands that people think in more abstract ways, providing layer upon layer upon layer of overhead, which is worth the extra CPU cycles simply because of the beauty of being married to a single way of "doing it".

Flexibility is bad, and it's about time that the most exhaustive single source of useful content for doing anything should convert to Java. Maybe this way, people using Java can finally achieve the levels of productivity that were until now the sole property of the Perl community.
