Damian Conway spoke over two nights at the D/FW Perl Mongers group in June last year, too. I attended the meetings - a week after arriving in the US from Australia, and the talks were great for two reasons - the first hearing a Perl genius talk; the second hearing another Aussie accent!
The D/FW Perl Mongers are generally a social gathering - meeting over a drink or ten at a local watering hole.
