Organization of reviews? (and new nodes)

I was perusing some areas of the site I hadn't visted before, and I noticed that the book reviews are organized alphabetically. I wonder whether it might be more useful for them to be arranged by date, most recent first.

I see that there aren't a lot of them -- by their nature (books take a long time to write and read, and often have useful lifetimes extending far beyond the ephemeral) -- so organizing them by date might well be missing the point. But nonetheless, some are significantly older than others, something one can't figure out just from looking at the alphabetized list.

Also, I've noticed that the "Newest Nodes" page categorizes "Perl News" nodes as "New Perl Announcements," which doesn't seem to correspond with what that section is often used for (and in any case doesn't have the same name, which is potentially confusing). The "Perl News" section says it isn't serving its original purpose any longer, but people still post new things to it, so I wonder whether it might be worth disambiguating its function.

I've really no idea how much work goes into changing something like this, so I could be suggesting something unreasonable. Do these changes seem worthwhile and/or feasible?

In my humble perspective, I think it's better for the book reviews to be arranged alphabetically. A monk is far more likely to want to visit there to read the review on say, Mastering Regular Expressions (like I did a few days ago) than wanting to find out when the most recent Perl related book was published and/or reviewed.

However, I undertand your point of view. Some books may be out of print or superceded by newer editions, and this is not always made clear. (I would have cited the out of print CGI Programming On the World Wide Web, superceded by CGI Programming with Perl, but neither of these books seem to have reviews. Hmm).

Maybe somemonk could provide information on whether a book is out of print or has been superceded by a newer edition, etc.

Perhaps we could have a choice in our User Options page on whether we want them organised by date or alphabetically - as there will always be some monks who want it one way, and some who want it the other way.

Would that be a really difficult thing to do?
