    Oh, so it basically takes the new line off something?
    Basically...yes.

    If you change $/ to something other then the new line, it will chomp that insead.

    chomp needs an argument, unless you want to chomp $_ 
    #!/usr/bin/perl

my $greeting = "Hello World\n";
chomp $greeting;
print $greeting
