Membership pledge drive II

on Nov 15, 2002 at 00:15 UTC ( [id://213046]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Here's a little Thanksgiving challenge for everybody who loves the monastery. I tried this a few weeks ago, but really only succeeded in embarrassing myself. :) Thanks to Kurt DeMaagd at YAS, we're all set to go this time.

If 10 people make a donation to Perl Monks by November 28th, I'll donate US$250. I'd really, really like to see people donate US$25 or more, but I don't have any way of verifying the amount.

I'll be checking the Perl Monks Fund over at YAS. The "Make a Donation" link is on the left in the navigation bar on that YAS page. YAS is now tracking Perl Monks donations separately from their other funds. Thanks Kurt!

Oh, I'm the first one... and you can verify the amount :)

Who will be the next one? You can donate here using a secure connection.

    Ciao, Valerio

Update: the link now points to the secure pages... sorry for the incorrect link.

I really do intend to contribute, but... when I got to the page about entering credit card info, I noticed that the form was not using SSL. I guess I'm paranoid, or maybe I've just been conditioned/brainwashed into thinking that entering credit card info over an unencrypted link is, well, unwise at best. Is there another method available? (Should I just stop being paranoid?)

update: Aha! this has been fixed -- thanks! Payment complete.

Should I just stop being paranoid?
      1. No. Paranoia your friend.
      2. No. Never send credit card numbers or any confidential information over an unencrypted channel. Period.
      3. No. It should be standard practice to encrypt credit card transactions. Don't encourage insecure practices.

So to sum up: No, No, No.

Please post an update once we can donate securely. Then I, and I'm sure many others, will gladly contribute :).

It is fixed now, https is used for transmiting the CC information.

I donated $5 dollars last night, although I did not know about this "Membership drive". I intend to donate more when I get it :-) I encourage everyone to make at least a small donation.

From what I see on the status of the PerlMonks Fund, I'm the eighth person to donate. Come on folks, the 28th is not so far away...

++ Good initiative. I haven't donated in awhile. I'll donate $25 when I get paid Thursday. I already spent my "allowance" up this week.

    Thanks,
