Dear Monks,
What are your pertivities (Perl-Activities)?
There are hundreds of mailing list, journals and newsites that go around. It would be interesting to know as what u consider important currently or have considered good in the past. Not just the collection of links, but your collection on interests would help our community to grow faster.

I have an account on use.perl.org that is configured to send me email updates of new stories posted.

I used to be subscribed to all the Perl 6 mailing lists, but after a while I noticed that I wasn't able to read more than 5% of the traffic. I unsubscribed from them and now I content myself with pdcawley's most excellent summaries. I also read Rafael's summaries of p5p, to keep an eye on what is happening in current Perl. Both of these resources can be found on use.perl

Mark-Jason Dominus runs an entertaining project called Quiz of the Week, where Perl puzzles are posted, solved and discussed, and is well worth the visit.

I founded a Monger group that will celebrate its fourth anniversary next month. We meet every second Wednesday, for food, drinks and discussion. Sometimes we even talk about Perl.

Many modules and projects also run their own mailing lists. For instance, I am subscribed to the Sybperl list, run by mpeppler, that discusses Perl and Sybase.

It's quite likely that this year I will be moving to London, and if I am I would quite like to go to/join the London Perl Mongers Group there. (Who knows, you might be able to get me to come out of my Perl shell). What is it like? What do you get up to? What should I wear? :)

      The Webmistress who doesn't hesitate to use strict;

Rozallin, I'm sure you'd fit right it with the rest of the group.

And there's no need to wait until you come to London to get involved. We have a mailing list and an IRC channel, both of which are frequented by people much further away from London than you are.

Details of how to get involved are also on the web site (tell 'em Dave sent you). Oh and there's also another page explaining some of our in-jokes.

Oh, one last question to see how well you'll fit in - Buffy or Willow?

    • Mailinglists: p5p, fwp, advocacy, documentation, datetime, inline, qotw, lists for PM groups in Philadelphia, New York, Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
    • Visiting PM meetings in Amsterdam as often as I can. Used to visit meetings in Philly and New York.
    • Regular speaker (YAPC::NA, YAPC::EU, philly.pm, newyork.pm, amsterdam.pm, boston.pm, stl.pm & the company I work for).
    • Perl teacher (SUN education, HP education, Global Knowledge).
    • I run smokes and I do CPAN testing.
    • I write and maintain a set of CPAN modules.
    • I'll soon be making a come-back on usenet. ;-)
    • Perlmonks is the only Perl website I visit regulary.

Just PerlMonks, mostly. I also embarrass myself on the low traffic fun-with-perl mailing list from time to time. I tried to follow CLPM before, but it's just too much traffic, esp considering that the signal/noise ratio is worse than here.

    Makeshifts last the longest.

Mostly programming for my own entertainment alone.
Just joined Perlmonks recently as a source of help when I get stuck (and find myself helping others more..)
Else just reading random articles I come across when looking for solutions (TPJ, perl.com, whatever..)
Oh, and joined the munich pm mailinglist, no activity there tho at the moment..

I frequent perl monks, which is the only perl specific website (possibly the only website I frequent). I also teach a bit of perl at the company I work for. I also try to read merlyns articles when they come out, and as much of the perl 6 news as I can.

    What are your pertivities (Perl-Activities)?

    In no explainable order:

    • I created and maintain some CPAN modules. From the e-mail I receive regarding my modules, it seems only PLP and DBIx::Simple are actually used. Math::Calc::Euro was used during the euro introduction, but I no longer get mail about it. I don't think anyone has ever used Math::MagicSquare::Generator or Crypt::Caesar.
    • I try to visit the Rotterdam Perl Mongers meetings (every third tuesday), but can't always be there.
    • As you know, I visit PerlMonks regularly. I used to answer a lot of questions here, but I have no longer got the time, and think there are too many newbies seeking for Perl wisdom without RTFM'ing first.
    • Other sites I visit at least once a week are perl.com and use Perl;. I also like reading TPJ and TPR (If I were to choose, I'd go for TPJ, but fortunately, you can have both :)
    • I use Perl daily for quick system administration hacks, but also for larger projects. My company can't exist without Perl.
    • In #perlhelp on EFnet, I spend a lot of time helping people with Perl, as the name indicates. I'm also in two different #perl's, but am not at all active there.
    • The Perl Cheat Sheet is one of the most visited pages of my homepage. It appears people like it.
    • I've helped improving Irssi's Perl scripting support. (And I still think Irssi scripts should be modules, and be distributed through CPAN, but nobody seems to agree with me)
    • I visit http://search.cpan.org/recent every day, and often bug people using e-mail or RT to tell them what I think about their modules. Sometimes, when I think the module is really valuable or invaluable, I write a review. But you knew that :)
(Please excuse the arrogance. I've yet to learn how to avoid "I" in English.)

I'm interested in almost everything that is Perl.
