Wikis with Perl

weini has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi all,

last week I read an interesting article about wikis. And I found a very simple but effective wiki program with usemod (http://www.usemod.com) - it's just one perl-script.

I would like to know whether you fellow monks have your own experiences with wikis and whether you can recommend a wiki perl-script?! I searched CPAN, of course, but I'd like to benefit from your opinions.

I don't have much of my own to say, but a similar question has been asked recently at Everything vs twiki vs ??. You may want to read some of the posts there.

For something very functional, try TWiki. It is used at my company for in-house documentation and project management. It serves its purpose quite well and is nice to work with.

    Just my 2 cents, -gjb-

Most Wiki engines I have encountered consist of one monolithic script. People who don't know Perl well can install such scripts easily, but experienced Perl programmers may find them difficult to customise.

CPAN modules such as CGI::Wiki and Text::WikiFormat interest me because they break a Wiki engine down into more manageable chunks.

Just be aware that UseMod is a particularly ugly glob of code and isn't useful as code to learn from (if you ever think to open it up and look inside).
