!unlike has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi monkers,
I recently posted Problem with SNMP::Multi, or me? onto clpm (comp.lang.perl.modules) but haven't had any replies so far.

So I thow my question open to you all. Personally I'm stumped.

Please comment even if you don't know. At least then I can abandon all hope and trawl through the module in the debugger.

It's hard to see the problem from here.
You seem to know your way around debugging. Did you also try to edit the code in the module (.pm) yourself at some points to see what happens?

sidenote: in your signature, there might be a typo: I know of a Socrates, not Scorates.

Yes this is quite an involved problem. Unless you know the intricacies of the module, or have seen this problem before, it is going to be difficult to offer help. But I live in hope. If that doesn't work out I'll move into dispair. ;)

I try not to mess with other peoples code as a general rule. If I can, I want to avoid doing that here too. Although I expect I will end up having to do so. :(

Good spot on the typo in my sig. Oops! :)

OK. I've delved deep into this problem. The malformed OID seems to be caused by SNMP::_main_loop in SNMP.pm. However there is no _main_loop subroutine.

AUTOLOAD, I thought. And yes there is an AUTOLOAD sub, but it has nothing to do with _main_loop.

In the debugger there is a sub called _main_loop. But stepping over it just seems to skip it like a 'n'. Please, anyone, any ideas on how I could see what is going on within this sub?

I haven't read the perldoc on the debugger, yet. That's where I'm going now.
