To keep up with Pea?rl and other Ruby...

Opal: Object Perl, Another Language.

It would make clear that Opal it is a PONG (Perl Objectifed New Generation).

The logo would be pal within a big O making cleary that Opal is friendly: Opal is Our pal.

Well, there is already an Opal language and an Opal operating system. But who cares, a camel can be bullish. :)

If it wasn't for the fact that Opal is already taken, I'd be all over this one. I like it a lot, both because of the thematic progression from "pe(a)rl" to "opal" and the "object perl" reference, which is one I've been thinking might be a good name for it.

How about "Ocaml"? The best part is, it's already finished. ;-)
Alas, I don't really know anything about Ocaml.
