I don't know if I could describe it any better than what has already been said on the PerlMonks FAQ pages :)
To quote specifically... * an attempt to make learning Perl as non-intimidating and easy to use as possible * a place for individuals to polish, improve, and showcase their Perl skills * a community which allows everyone to grow and learn from each other In my own view of the monastery, it is a gathering of Perl faithful, who despite of numerous tribulations in their real lives, find solace in numerous discussions (at times heated :) taking place within these walls. This is also by far one of a rare few sites where an inexperienced Perl 'hacker' could post a question and expect a more or less decent answer within a fraction of a second. Answers to any particular question tend to pile in at a lighting pace, indeed ;) _____________________ "We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare.
