Illuminated Guts

The Guts of perl -- its internal APIs, XS code, etc. -- contain a vast sea of gems worthy of much reflection and capable of great enlightenment. I propose that there should be categorized Q&A section where information and insight about the Guts be facilitated.

I would agree, it could be a useful section. FWIW, you can check out Perlguts Illustrated, which is a good read, as well as the start of perlhacktut (I don't think it has yet been completed) or here (this one may be more complete), and there is also the perlguts man page.

    Cheers,
    KM

Update: The final link pointing to perlhacker.org no longer works. As of this update, you can find that particular article here.

Yes, those are useful refreences, and of course everyone interested in low-level Perl should be familiar "perldoc perlxs" and its family (perlapi, perlcall, etc) What's missing is the Perl Monks value-add: active threaded discussions, and (most importantly to me) lots of Real Life Working Examples you can look at as a starting point. Hacking XS is insanely fun.
