North American CPAN mirrors

Since there are probably a lot of people that mirror CPAN, but are not official mirrors, here is an email recently posted on the CPAN mirrors admin list:

If you are mirroring from funet.fi...

the admin of the pair.com CPAN mirror told us that they have nowadays a Really Big Pipe to the Internet, and that they could easily handle more download traffic. Therefore you might to try whether you could get better mirroring bandwidth from pair.com than from funet.fi, and if you do, you could switch over to pair.com. (At the same time I think we could also increase the mirroring frequency of pair.com itself.)

In addition to this, I should also note that even though we aren't listed as having rsync available yet, you can rsync the entire CPAN archive from 'cpan.pair.com::CPAN'. Cpan.pair.com is now mirroring funet several times a day.

I've been using pair.com's CPAN mirror for a while, with great satisfaction. I've never had trouble with connection limits, and updates are already frequent enough - though more would be even better.

Thank you, the mirror service is much appreciated!

As I said in the last line of the post, we are now mirroring funet several times a day.

      Thanks.

We have a bunch of other mirrors, by the way, that you might find useful. :)

I think they might have bandwidth to spare. ;-) They just recently turned converted an OC-3 to OC-12 (in addition to the 2 they already had!) for a aggregate total of 2.265Gb/s.

    From http://www.pair.com/pair/facilities/network.html

    Our backbone providers are:
    • AT&T - OC-12c
    • Sprint - OC-12c
    • Global Crossing - OC-12c
    • Level(3)/Genuity - OC-3c
    • Cable & Wireless - DS-3
    • e-Xpedient - Fast Ethernet (in use with PitX)
