in thread My favorite P38 is...

Howdy!

...well, I saw this explanation on alt.callahans...

Keith sits himself down at the bar. "Hey Mike, you hear that they heard from Beagle 2 a while back"

Mike raises a brow disbeleivingly "Didn't hear anything on the news..."

"Well, they're actually trying to keep it quiet. There's a lot of problems with the message, or rather, message fragment that they receaved.."

Mike pours a glass of bushmills and sets it down.

"First, it was very faint, and only a fragment of the full message. But that's the least of the problems. Either there's some odd parallel evolution going on, or interplanitary transport of lifeforms, or, for the tinfoil hat crowd, the Russians have gotten there and established themselves, or ultimate proof that history repeats itself."

Mike chewed on his cigar. "What was the message?"

Keith chuckled and sipped his drink. "Well... what they got was 'Curse you red bear on...' before the message faded out again...

...and that was followed by the obligatory barrage of peanuts... the thread in google

yours,
Michael

I'm young, stupid, etc, can anyone explain the punch line?
Oy, kids today, don't know nothin'... </lame humor>

"Curse you Red Baron" was the catch phrase of one Snoopy (you've heard of Snoopy, right? From the Peanuts comic?) when he was in "World War I Flying Ace" persona, after being shot down again and again by the Red Baron. Snoopy was, by the way, a beagle.

Yeah, I remembered snoopy, I just couldn't see the connection to a mars rover or whatever.
