Some of you may have noticed the announcement at yetanother.org regarding Perl Monks and Yet Another Society. The details are not 100% set yet but I thought I'd let you in on what has been going on.

Yet Another Society and BSI (EDC's parent company) have long been closely associated. YAS's mailing address is in Holland and both are sustained by Kurt the Pope. Since we decided that PM was no longer a for-profit venture it seemed to make sense to allow people (and BSI) to be able tax-deduct their contributions towards the operating costs of the site.

The power structure for the site will remain unchanged. I will maintain my status as the (hopefully) beneficent dictator. We will not be changing currency here. 1,000,000 XP and $1.09 will still buy you a 20oz bottle of Fruitopia at your neighborhood Mobil station.

A lot of the specifics remain to be hashed out. This is however in general what will likely happen. I'll keep you posted.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
