The docs are correct.
For example, x86 is a LE platform, and byteorder is 1234 (32-bit IV) or 12345678 (64-bit IV) on that platform.
>perl -V:archname
archname='MSWin32-x86-multi-thread';
>perl -V:byteorder
byteorder='1234';
>perl -V:archname
archname='MSWin32-x86-multi-thread-64int';
>perl -V:byteorder
byteorder='12345678';
x64 is also LE.
>perl -V:archname
archname='MSWin32-x64-multi-thread';
>perl -V:byteorder
byteorder='12345678';
I don't have access to a BE platform to confirm that byteorder is 4321 or 87654321 there.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
