Just to say thanks a million for these replies. I find it quite hard to get to grip with a new area of programming from absolute first principles, but if I get a bit of an idea how it's meant to work I learn quite quickly. Like the grit in the oyster. This has really got me started, and I feel certain that it's going to be a lot easier from here - extremely useful. Thanks again. § George Sherston

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
