Call me a heretic, but I still haven't ever really
experienced the *need* for anything faster than the
56K modem I use. The only possible reason could be
MP3 files or perhaps a new kernel, but those are rare
events. Even MP3's don't take that long. I mostly use
the connection for email (no problem), web browsing
(no problem, I have J/JS turned off anyway), and
ssh to various boxes (no problem, even though they
are geographically spaced far apart). Yes, faster would be
better, but I have yet to find a burning need that would
justify the cost and the hassle (and loss of privacy) that
a faster connection would entail.
Okay, my VNC sessions refresh really really slow, but
I really just stick to ports 22, 25, and 80 for day to
day use.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
