( [id://3333]=superdoc: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

This is one of those kinds of questions you could answer with either an entire bound volume (scholarly method); a series of pre-fab perl scripts (utilitarian method); or with the nuanced flick of a wrist (zen method).

My method is far more prosaic: answer with the first three things that come to mind off the top of my head.

  • Chapter X "Levels of Description and Computer Systems" (see especially 'Chunking and Chess Skill'). Godel Escher Bach
  • language specific vs. author specific traits in a body of text sample link
  • the shape of a song (warning: uses JAVA applets!)

The second and third items represent my own speculation that you could: 1) 'fingerprint' a particular chess-player's style of play simply by a textual analysis of a notated game; and 2) visually represent (and thereby distinguish) styles of play in novel ways...

Fun stuff...

... yes yes ... the correct spelling is "Gödel" ... please take this up with isbn.nu, not me, thanks.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
