Mandatory Preview for Non-editable Nodes

by mdillon (Priest)

at least once every 1 or 2 days, a new users comes along and posts a node that is horribly malformatted and gets either ignored, berated, or (wastefully) corrected.

my proposal is this: non-editable nodes should by default not be able to be posted without first previewing them at least once. this should be the only mode available to Anonymous Monks. regular users should have an option like 'Allow posting of non-editable nodes without previewing', which would be off by default (causing every root node to be previewed at least once by default).

since it could be turned off, it wouldn't be a hindrance to experienced site users, and since it doesn't change the actual content of the nodes, it is less intrusive than Corion's automatic code wrapping proposal.

so, what do you all think?

At least once every 1 or 2 weeks, a monk comes along and posts a node that advocates "preview-only for non-editable nodes" and gets voted up, applauded, or pointed to the previous discussions.

    q-:

Update: See my previous node on this.

well, i hadn't seen your previous node with this suggestion before posting, but here's what i have to say about the repetition: a good idea bears repeating where a bad one falls apart.

people will continue to make suggestions regarding this issue as long as inexperienced monks have trouble using the posting system.

    Hear, here!

I know that I got a little confuzzled at the way the posting system works here at first. (Especially the lack of consistent buttons...but that's another rant entirely). Now it all makes sense to me, but I think an option of this sort would make life Much Happier for everybody.

    There's my two cents
